Adult Students If you are an adult who is thinking about returning to music lessons or if you are thinking about taking up a musical instrument for the first time you are part of a trend. We have a large number of adult students learning to play piano, guitar, accordion, clarinet and other instruments. Many people discover the joys of playing music in their adulthood, and we never loose the capacity to learn and grow. Many of our adult students come to us as complete beginners never having taken music lessons before. They often come to fulfil a desire that they have had since they were children. There are many rewards that await such students. Adult beginners differ from children because they have heard and loved so much music already in their lives. They often advance more quickly because they have a clearer sense of their goals and of what it takes to achieve them. Adult students may have taken lessons as children. This brings with it a tremendous advantage. Much of what they learned as children comes back to them quickly. Adults face challenges as well. It is sometimes more difficult for adults to develop new habits, for example, getting used to an unfamiliar hand position or technique. But, as with children, discipline, perseverance and a genuine desire to achieve their goals help adults to overcome many obstacles. All of our teachers are fully prepared to teach students of all ages. Our approach to teaching adults differs from children in a number of ways. Adults may work through a different series of lesson books specifically oriented to adult students and the student may play a larger role in choice of repertoire and specific areas of study. Because all of our instruction is one-on-one the lessons can be tailored to each student. |
